Gaining international experience – flexibly, practically, and without the need to travel? Kempten Business School makes it possible!

Starting this fall, MBA students in the International Business Management and Leadership program will have the opportunity to participate in a virtual exchange with Lapland University of Applied Sciences (Lapin AMK) in Finland as part of the International Elective. In selected modules, they will collaborate with Finnish and other international students on topics such as digital business model innovation, strategic transformation, and data-driven corporate management.

A partnership with strong roots

Kempten University of Applied Sciences and Lapin AMK have been collaborating on international projects for several years. During an exchange project in Finland, the idea emerged to create a new form of international learning experience – flexible, digital, and ideal for working professionals.

This initiative has been driven significantly by the long-standing collaboration between Tanja Suomalainen (Principal Lecturer, Lapin AMK), Kati Kesonen (Internationalisation Services, Kemi/Tornio, Lapin AMK), and Astrid Menzl (Program Manager and Organizational Lead of the MBA Program International Business Management and Leadership, Kempten Business School). Together, they developed the concept of a virtual exchange, which is now being implemented for the first time.

„Lapland UAS has established this partnership to create new virtual exchange opportunities, strengthening international collaboration and offering students flexible access to global learning. The expected value lies in enhancing students’ intercultural competencies, expanding their professional networks, and removing geographical barriers to education. This initiative has emerged from our commitment to improving international collaboration, enhancing diversity in education, and diversifying educational content.“
Tanja Suomalainen

A two-way exchange

Not only do students from Kempten Business School benefit from this cooperation – Finnish MBA students can also participate in selected modules of the program. This includes Leadership Excellence & Communication, a course that teaches essential communication strategies for effective leadership and management in the digital age.

Why is this especially valuable for working professionals?

A traditional semester abroad is often difficult to reconcile with work and family commitments. At the same time, international experience and new perspectives are essential for a successful career in a global environment.

This new exchange opportunity offers numerous advantages:

  • International experience – without the need to travel
  • Collaboration with Finnish and international students
  • Insights into a different higher education system and new teaching methods
  • Practical insights into digital business models
  • Expansion of the professional network with international contacts
  • Flexible learning – ideal for professionals

Just the beginning of an exciting partnership

This is just the first step – we are excited to see how this partnership will develop! There is surely more to come from this collaboration, allowing our students to experience the Northern Factor – all from the comfort of their own homes.
